NewChan was started eight months ago and since then has grown every month. As this website gets bigger, new servers are needed to keep it running and the bandwidth usage gets higher.

I've been paying for all the costs of running NewChan out of my pocket but it is starting to get a bit expensive. I have no intention of shutting down the site but we do need some way of recovering some of the cost each month.

We currently have the following options available to help with the costs:

1) Put up advertising on the site
2) Take "sponsorships" (we can't call them donations) from site visitors.

Give us your feedback on these or even give us some new ideas that we haven't thought of.

The adult board has become very popular and is beginning to see a good amount of spammers trying to pose as the original poster of the thread. When we see the spammers we deal with them but we don't always catch them before someone is redirected to a spam link.

I've made changes to the board that will allow someone to verify that the posts are by the same poster.

There is now an ID: field in each post that will identify the poster without breaking their anonymity. If the ID: field matches all posts in the thread you know they are all from the same poster. If not, you might have a spammer.

I have also doubled the number of pages on /adult/ to 30 instead of 15 before posts are deleted. Because this board can fill 15 pages in a day, this will allow more time for visitors to search the board.

I've had to turn on captcha challenges for posting on all boards. This is due to the second spamalanche from Leetchan. Jeebus did a great job cleaning up the mess these idiots left but he shouldn't have to spend his volunteered time doing this.

All posting now requires that the image that shows up between the Email and Subject fields be typed into the box before the post will be accepted.

I hate to do this but NewChan is getting big enough to attract a rather large assortment of idiots with autoposters.

NewChan will be down for a little while tonight while I upgrade one of the servers. Yes I know this is right smack in the middle of one of the highest peak usage times (Friday night) for NewChan, but unfortunately, it's the only time I have available to do this work. This particular server is running out of memory and needs more. This should speed up the site response also.

Does anyone know what happened to Anime & Chan Toplist (atoplist.net)? That site seems to have been down for about a week now.

I've temporarily removed the links to it on the boards because it is causing some problems with the pages loading.

Due to abuse, all known proxy services, open proxies and tor proxies are now banned from posting. Like always, a few bad folks ruined it for everyone...

I will reverse this when I find a better way to keep out the trash.
